The
Galaxy Angkor Boutique Hotel in
Siem Raep, Cambodia is really disappointing, and the breakfast is not much either.
We want another hotel and we ask the driver to arrange another hotel.
That is not easy because of the New Year's holiday in Cambodia, but he maneges to find something.
We're going to look at the
Borey Rattanak Hotel.
The hotel seems reasonable and we take a double room for us and a family room for the family.
The hotel does not have breakfast.
Then we leave for Tonle Sap.
It is very busy in Siem Reap,
it takes a long time before we leave the city.
We arrive at a narrow, not very good road.
At the end we have to buy tickets for a boat trip.
There is also a coffee shop there, The White Elephant Café, where they brew amazingly good
coffee.
The last part of the road is unpaved.
Along the road a lot of people are fishing.
When we arrive at the boats it appears to be quite busy, and there are hundreds of boats.
We first sail for almost an hour via a winding waterway through a village, where the houses
are built on five or six meters high poles.
There live 35,000 people who earn a living with fishing.
When we arrive at Tonle Sap that is impressive, the lake is huge.
You cannot see any other banks and the water is almost ripple-free.
We return the same way.
We eat at a busy restaurant, where we have to wait for a while for a table, and then for
food and drinks.
The food tastes pretty good.
We drive back to Siem Reap to a temple where a monument has been erected for the 'Killing Fields' of the red Khmer. It is only a small monument, but it makes a big impression.
Then we change hotel, after a lot of talking we get refunded one night, and we can go to the
new hotel where we leave the luggage.
We want to eat in a small restaurant, and the driver takes us to a restaurant a few hundred
meters from the hotel.
We eat and drink something, and we like it and enjoy it.
We immediately reserve breakfast for tomorrow.
When we get back to the hotel, the air conditioning in the family room gives up.
Fans are installed, and a mobile air conditioner, but it doesn't get really cool.
The air conditioning can only be made tomorrow.
The small children therefore sleep in our room.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not.
There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment,
there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood,
the weather and many other factors.
